some of us wind up in shadow
some wind up in shade
there are distinctions in
the darkness to be made

I've made welcome to darkness
when the lights focused in too tight
said hello as if to a friend
when I should have picked a fight

many of us live in a fog
that the wire wizards made
sucking up a string of electrons
from the screen where they are sprayed

darkness with blues is
different than darkness shared
the blue tones leave you lonely
lonely leaves you scared

right at the edge of conciousness
black meets flickering red
of fires in the ruins
and a truth is left unsaid

we are sparks out in the darkness
and there is oncoming night
fool that I am I want to touch your wings
and try to make more light
